gekPrivacy Policy
Last updated: 7 November 2026
gek is an app for learning Thai from short video clips. It is made by Wachiratarn Boontan ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Questions: support@geklearning.com.
What we collect
Your account
- Email and password. If you sign up with email, we keep your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a secure hash; we can't read it. We email you 6-digit codes to confirm your address and to reset your password.
- Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us an identifier for your Apple ID, an email address (which can be Apple's private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email") and, the first time, the name you share. We also keep a token from Apple so that, when you delete your account, we can tell Apple to remove gek's access.
- Guest use. Before you create an account, the app uses an anonymous guest account. A guest account that never becomes a full account is deleted automatically after 7 days, with everything in it.
Your learning
To keep your progress on any device, we store, linked to your account: your level and daily goal; the words, lines and clips you save, your notes and decks; your review history; which clips you've watched; how long you study each day (for your goal and streak); and your achievements.
What you send us
- Feedback. Ideas and bug reports you post in the app, and your votes on them. Other gek users can read posted feedback, with the name you type, unless you post anonymously.
- Clip reports. When you report a clip (for example an incorrect transcript or a video that won't play), we store the report with your account.
- Emails you send to support.
Subscriptions
Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card or payment details. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receives an anonymous app user ID and Apple's record of your purchases (product, dates, trial and renewal status) so the app knows whether you have gek Pro.
What we don't collect
No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera. No advertising identifier. No analytics or advertising SDKs. Word pronunciation is spoken by your iPhone's built-in voice, on the device.
Reminders
If you allow notifications, gek schedules your daily reminder and streak alerts on your iPhone. Your reminder time stays on the device; nothing about your notifications is sent to us. You can turn them off in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → gek.
Why we use it
Only to run the app: to sign you in, save and sync your progress, send sign-in codes, check your subscription, answer your emails, and keep the clip library working and appropriate. We don't use your data for advertising or profiling, and we don't sell or rent it.
Who else handles it
We use these services to run gek. Each processes data only on our behalf and under its own privacy terms.
| Service | What it does | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and sign-in (servers in Singapore, so your data is stored outside Australia) | Your account and learning data |
| Resend | Sends sign-in code emails | Your email address |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status | App user ID, purchase records |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments | As described by Apple |
| Expo | Delivers app updates | Device and app version, IP address |
YouTube
The clips in gek are YouTube videos, played in YouTube's embedded player. gek uses YouTube API Services. When a clip plays, YouTube (Google) may collect data about your device and viewing under Google's Privacy Policy, and playback is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. gek doesn't sign you in to YouTube and doesn't get any of your YouTube account data. You can review Google's access to your data at Google's security settings page.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete it and all your data right away. Database backups can hold a copy for a short time afterwards (at most 30 days) before they are overwritten. Guest accounts are deleted after 7 days if they never become a full account.
Deleting your account
In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This deletes your account, progress, saved words, notes, decks, feedback and reports, and revokes Sign in with Apple. Deleting the account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel that in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You can also email support@geklearning.com to ask us to delete your account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under Australia's Privacy Act 1988, the EU/UK GDPR or Thailand's PDPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. Email support@geklearning.com and we'll answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Australia, the OAIC).
Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Each account can reach only its own data; the database enforces this. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
Children
gek is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
